Dear Santa… Christmas Wish Lists Family Night [with Free Printable!]

Can you believe that December is already here?! Christmas is going to be here before we know it! Life just seems to be flying by lately so the other night the brakes were put on, press pause on life as it be, and a slowed-down quality family night came to be. Bring out the holiday catalogs, some stickers, papers, scissors, glue sticks and a few cups of hot cocoa and we had ourselves a family Christmas List evening…

It’s… The Final Countdown!

Oh and I hope while reading that title you sung it out in your head, you know “It’s THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! The Final Countdown! Oh, It’s…”. Now good luck getting that out of your head for the next week…

But more to the point of my post! It’s not every day I get to support (A) my hubby and (B) a great cause all in one go, but first a little back story… So it all started a little over a year ago, reading the local news and saw a headline about a marathon event happening in Edmonton in support of the local Children’s Hospital (Stollery) and as the Stollery is very near and dear to our heart this instantly peaked my interested to read more. As I read I found this out to be an annual 25-hr gaming marathon in support of Children’s Hospitals across North America through a fundraising group called Extra Life, and specifically the YEG Extra Life and their marathon event supporting the Stollery Children’s Hospital here in Edmonton. I barely finished the article before running to Dustin saying, how are you not a part of this?! How do you not know about this?! I don’t think there is anything that has more you written all over this than this!!

Since then the hubby, an avid gamer (as I am sure many reading this already know!), has been counting down the days for months now; registering, fundraising, planning his ‘set-up’, his game schedule, and all those other gamer related things that I nod my head along to in anticipation of his first, of many more, events. Well this Saturday is the day – at 12 o’clock sharp on November 5th the 24-hr gaming marathon kicks off in the middle of West Edmonton Mall!

So now where do I come into play here? Continue reading “It’s… The Final Countdown!”

Nom Nom Nom, A Cookie Monster First Birthday

Hard to believe a year has come and gone already, but what better way to turn one then surrounded by friends, family, and lots of cookies!

If you haven’t figured it out already, Cookie Monster was the theme for this party and, as the little man loves his pancakes, I planned the celebration for late-morning to serve a delicious, kid-friendly brunch menu! From mini-pancakes and cinnamon buns, to DIY yogurt parfait and a cereal bar. Then to top it off, some frootloop marshmallow treats, blue jello, cupcakes, cake and, of course, lots of cookies (and milk!)!

Cookie Monster First Birthday Brunch

#PartyTip – DIY Yogurt Parfaits are a great alternative to assembling individual parfaits… Not only can guests pick and choose their toppings, but leftovers are easy to pack up and re-use without a fridge full of parfaits! 😉

The cereal bar was a hit, not only by the kids but for the “big kids” too, and you want to talk about something easy with minimal work… just grab a few jars, fill with cereal, add bowls, spoons and milk, and voila, done and ready! The cupcakes were just adorable, with the mix of mini cookie monsters with cookies and chocolate chip cookie topping. Then the cake…. one of my favorite, and most delicious, parts…. the chocolate cake, done up like Cookie Monster, had the most delicious layer of cookie dough filling!

The prep for the big day was lots of fun, between the “Nom Nom Nom”, “One” and other banners, Cookie Monster figurines, milk crates, and cookie Continue reading “Nom Nom Nom, A Cookie Monster First Birthday”

Happy Mother’s Day!

YEG Mom Life, Mother and Kids

Earlier this past week our little boy gave quite the tug to my heart strings and then today this big girl of ours decided to give us quite the scare, between ambulance rides and hospitals the day resulted in not quite the Mother’s Day we had planned for… but looking back on it now, we spent the day all together then ended with giggles, smiles and family cuddles, and for that I am blessed and could not ask for more.

My arms and heart are full with these two, and I would not want it any other way. Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the other mommas. grandmas, and all other mother figures out there!

Quick + Easy Pre-Summer Beer Butt Chicken

Happy Thursday! Spring is here and the whole family could not be more excited! Why you may ask? As that means we are just that much closer to lake season and a summer full of BBQ-everything! The past few weekends have involved some sort of list-making or organizing as we get lake ready, so to keep in the spirit what better way then a delicious beer-butt chicken! This is a staple almost every weekend when we are at the lake, so when I found some ideas online to replicate this in our oven, I knew we had to try it and it was so delicious I just HAD to share it! So here it is, a quick and easy, one pot (might be my favourite part), beer-butt chicken… Continue reading “Quick + Easy Pre-Summer Beer Butt Chicken”

LEGO Star Wars 4th Birthday!

Isn’t it fun when the little ones hit an age where they pick their own birthday theme?! It was a tough choice between The Paw Patrol and Star Wars, but in the end the Storm Troopers won our little girls heart!

Ever since Miss L went on her daddy-daughter date to the new Star Wars movie it has been all the two of them talk about and needless to say when Star Wars was chosen as the birthday theme the hubby was beyond thrilled. It might have even been his suggestion to throw the LEGO twist on it!

We were debating long and hard on where to do the party: at home? an outside venue? indoor play ground? The possibilities were endless… But once we learned of Hero Tag at Laser City, which is a version of laser tag just for littler ones, we knew it was a perfect match!
